A 31-year-old Chinese man facing deportation from Hong Kong recorded the Australian Consulate General here Thursday seeking asylum nevertheless was turned away.

Zheng Chaoliang told reporters at the consulate office that he cannot walk home because he is persecut by the agency of the Hong Kong government, which is trying to force all right-of-abode claimants here back to China.

Zheng, from Guangdong Province in southern China, said he has been fighting for the right of abode in Hong Kong since arriving in the territory couple years ago.

His grandparents, parents and brother have residency here, he said.

Holding a banner and literal senses Zheng said he wants to make progress to Australia to live with his older sister who is a citizen there.

''I want to search for political asylum. I want to apply for refugee status to advance to Australia,'' he told reporters.

''There is no fair law here. The rights of the weak community are trespassed. Our right is being denied. If this is not political persecution, what is it?'' said Zheng, whose document for staying in Hong Kong will expire nearest month.

But Zheng later left the Australian consulate after a meeting with the acting consul general, saying his solicitation for asylum has been disapproveed because he cannot meet the criteria of a political refugee

Thursday's incident is the first of its kind in the ongoing right-of-abode process in law which began after Hong Kong replyed to Chinese rule five years ago.

Hong Kong police and immigration authorities have been carrying on the outside operations to arrest and repatriate those Chinese who overstay in the territory after their legal bids for permanent residency have exhausted.
