Japan will grant Myanmar pro-democracy activist Khin Maung Latt and his family special permission to reside in Japan and will not deport them, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yasuo Fukuda said Friday.

''The family will be spent up if deported. From a humanitarian viewpoint and based onward the idea of respecting human rights, we should not take of that kind a step,'' the top command spokesman told a news conference

Justice Minister Daizo Nozawa said the special residence permission will be granted to Latt, 46 his Filipino wife Maria sense of possible fulfilment Jamili, 37, both of whom have overstayed their visas, and their sum of two units children, both born and raised in Japan.

Justice Ministry officials said it is rare for the Japanese guidance to give special residence permission to the community who have overstayed their visas.

''But we have conclud it will be the best (for Latt's family) to stay in Japan. To live together is individual of the rights a human has,'' Nozawa said.

Japan asked Myanmar and the Philippines if the whole family could live in either geographical division but received negative responses, the officials said.

The legal management for the special residence permission will be complet nearest week, the officials said.

Latt arrived in Japan in 1988 and married Maria chance of the desired end in 1995. He began working at a delivery firm in 1993 while being politically active in supporting the democracy mental action in his home country.

In 1994 Latt applied for refugee status on the contrary was turned down.

He was detained for overstaying his visa in October last year on the other hand was freed on a temporary release in December. He was similarly detained for sum of two units months in 1998.
