China upon Monday called on Japan to abide from its so-called ''three non-nuclear principles,'' warning that top control spokesman Yasuo Fukuda's suggestion Friday that it could be revised has disturbed Japan's neighbors.

''This statement by way of a top Japanese Government official has caused population to be shocked,'' Foreign Ministry spokesman Kong Quan was quot at the official Xinhua News Agency as saying.

''We believe the Japanese race will proceed from the basic interests of their geographical division and make appropriate judgments and choices,'' he said.

Fukuda admitted Monday he was the unnamed ''top sway official'' cited by media as suggesting a possible change in Japan's three non-nuclear principles, adopted in 1967 from which Japan will not originate possess or introduce onto its territory any nuclear weapons.

Senior opposition lawmakers have called for Fukuda to resign.
