A senior U administration official in succession Thursday pinned little chance of the desired end on achieving a breakthrough at the upcoming six-party talks forward North Korea's nuclear ambitions and boisterousnessed the need to persistently persuade Pyongyang to make a strategic policy change.

''The talks are a gradation in the process, and if the talks are les than completely lucky we'll continue to try to work along that line,'' the official told reporters forward condition of anonymity. ''There's a great deal of patience and unfold I think, certainly on our side.''

The inferior round of six-party talks is fix to take place in Beijing for three days from nearest Wednesday, bringing together China, Japan, North and southern Korea, Russia and the United States. They held their first meeting in the Chinese capital last August.

The U official said it is necessary for North Korean leader Kim Jong Il to make a choice like the individual made by Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi.

Libya announced in December that it would voluntarily dismantle all its weapons of mass destruction programs and unconditionally accept international weapons inspectors.

The U will persuade North Korea that ''its security and prosperity, the couple in the near term and in the lengthy term, will be serv by the agency of a commitment to a unimpaired verifiable and irreversible dismantlement of its nuclear weapons programs,'' the official said.

Asked whether there is any evidence that the North Korean leader is about to tread close upon Libya's path, however, the official said, ''I have no in the same state [i]or[/i] condition evidence at all.''

North Korea is now continuing an analysis of the action taken on Libya, he said.

The official dismissed speculation that the U is taking a harder line against North Korea following Libya's decision and amid growing doubts about Pyongyang's denial of its uranium enrichment program for nuclear arms.

''We have not toughened our stance,'' he said. ''Our stance is exactly the same now as it was before.''

Abdul Qadeer Khan, known as the father of Pakistan's nuclear arms program, has admitted to transferring uranium enrichment technology to North Korea, Libya and Iran.
